Gray & Geason winners of Tomatin Single Malt 54 Hole Pro Am
Stephen Gray of the Kerr Investments team has won the individual competition at the inaugural Tomatin Single Malt 54 Hole Pro Am. Gray clinched the £7,000 first prize with a score of 12 under par over the three rounds on the Highland Golf Links courses which saw him shoot a brilliant 67 at Royal Dornoch Golf Club on day one, a 69 at Castle Stuart Golf Links and a superb 66 at The Nairn Golf Club on the final day of the Pro Am.
Gray led the nearest chaser – Greig Hutcheon (Thistle Windows) – by three shots while Graham Fox (Tomatin 3) finished third on eight under par for the event. Second day leader, Chris Kelly (Port Services Ltd), finished tied fourth with Jonathan Lupton (Close House). Cawder GC Professional, Kelly, summed up the feelings of many of the Pros who took part with his final day Tweet: “I’ve had 3 wonderful days at 3 wonderful courses at the Tomatin Pro-Am.”
Paul McKechnie’s Geason won the team event and £750 first prize with 255 stableford points. Stephen Gray’s Kerr Investments were second while Close House, Mackie Cars, Close House VIP and McBucklis completed the money places.
The inaugural Tomatin Single Malt 54 Hole Pro Am was hailed as a huge success by all who took part with some great scores carded from both Professionals and Amateurs alike. All three days play took place in near perfect early autumn conditions that are typical of the Highlands at this time of year and make it one of the great late season golf destinations.
A gala prize-giving dinner (accompanied by a few well-earned malt whiskies) at Inverness’s Drumossie Hotel rounded off the proceedings at the Tomatin Single Malt 54 Hole Pro Am with many of the 244 competitors pledging to return in 2013 to compete in this great new event on the PGA Pro Am circuit.
