Exciting 2013 in prospect for HGL golf partners
After a memorable 2012, which saw Highland Golf Links at the epicenter of top level tournament golf – with Castle Stuart Golf Links hosting the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open for a second consecutive year, The Nairn Golf Club welcoming Europe’s and the United States’ best female golfers to contest the Curtis Cup, and the Scottish Amateur Championship being held at Royal Dornoch Golf Club – the three Highland Golf Links partners are looking forward to an equally exciting 2013.
On July 11-14 the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open returns to Castle Stuart Golf Links for a third year. With the announcement that NBC and The Golf Channel will show live coverage of the European Tour event, 2013’s edition is sure to be the biggest and most exciting yet and a perfect prelude to the The Open Championship to be held at Muirfield the following weekend.
In a thrilling final day’s play at the 2012 AAM Scottish Open India’s Jeev Milkha Singh clinched the trophy and winner’s cheque of £416,660 after a sudden death play-off with Italy’s Francesco Molinari (who had previously set a new course record of 62 and dominated for much of the weekend). A strong field contested the 2012 event including no less than ten Major winners as well as World No.1 Luke Donald, who was Scottish Open winner in 2011.
After playing host in 2012 as Great Britain & Ireland won the Curtis Cup for the first time since 1996, TheNairn Golf Club welcomes some of Scotland’s top male golfers for the prestigious North of Scotland Open on August 24-25. Just before that, Royal Dornoch Golf Club, which hosted the Scottish Amateur Championship in 2012, will host the 100th playing of Carnegie Shield on August 11-17. The Carnegie Shield regularly attracts entrants from all over the globe and is one of the Highland’s most renowned open competitions.
After the inaugural staging of the Tomatin Single Malt 3 Day Pro Am across the three HGL partner courses in 2012 the event returns in 2013 over the weekend of Sept 30-Oct 2. Entrants will play rounds at Castle Stuart, Nairn, and Royal Dornoch with individual and team prizes up for grabs. The inaugural Tomatin Single Malt 54 Hole Pro Am was hailed as a huge success by all who took part with many of the 244 competitors pledging to return in 2013. In 2012 all three days play took place in near perfect early autumn conditions that are typical of the Highlands at that time of year.
